DENR: Central Luzon accomplished 83.24% in NGP

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional Office 3 said on Thursday that Central Luzon has already accomplished 83.24 percent of its National Greening Program target for 2011.

DENR Regional Forest Resources Development Division chief Emelita Lingat said, "Approximately 2.3 million forest tree and fruit-bearing seedlings had been planted in 4,617.31 out of the 5,547 hectare targeted area coverage for this year since the launch of the program last May."

"Tarlac and Aurora topped the regional implementation of the NGP after both achieving 100 percent of their targeted area coverage of 936 hectares and 484 hectares respectively," said Lingat.

The said program seeks to plant some 1.5 billion trees covering about 1.5 million hectares for a period of six years (2011-2016) in lands of public domain. — ARA
